The Adventures of Saoirse & Ballsy! standard

Welcome to the exciting saga of The Long Journey Home! Saoirse is our carefully & lovingly selected team mascot for the World Cup, sadly (rumour has it) that appears to be where the love and care ended! Rarely seen and often neglected Saoirse didn’t get the chance to make new friends, was locked in a darkened room for the court session, got kidnapped by Picts and thrown in a bin by some Pacific Island Warriors and goodness knows what else! In spite of all this, when the tournament ended she turned down the chance to go to a loving home, instead deciding to give her Mammy Neasa another chance. However, in typical fashion, Neasa returned home to the West of ...

TWC end of Day 4 standard

Day 3 started with a nice lie in and a run out against Fiji in the midday sun. Much like the Australian game yesterday this is also what the World Cup is about – the chance to play against countries from the other side of the world that have put in tremendous effort and sacrifice to be here. Fiji W35s are very much a developing squad in terms of Touch, but you can see the proud and typically Fijian style of rugby, looking for offloads, not giving an inch in contact and always smiling 🙂 It was a well disciplined first half with good structure and patterns. Attention to detail did falter a bit in the second half but we ...

TWC end of Day 2 standard

Two tough, contrasting days into the World Cup and certainly learning a lot! Day 1 was pretty dull, wet and overcast. In the first match we never recovered from a poor slow start as slippery balls and opening day nerves got the better of us, going down 7-3 in the end. Emer, Anthea (although it’s been credited to Dawn!) and Michelle got the scores – a nice way for Emer to mark her 50th cap 🙂 Next up was england and going down 11-1 is probably in line with our expectations. Again the wet conditions didn’t help the completion rate, but we would have liked to have had more than Maria’s try to show for our efforts. Day 2 saw ...

Team Ireland Abu! standard

Team Ireland got together at DLSP yesterday for our squad presentation day. With the playing gear scheduled to arrive this week it was a lot more efficient than previous events 🙂 and provided a great opportunity for the seven squads, friends and family to get together and acknowledge the achievements of all involved. Best of luck to everyone involved in the tournament, but especially this lovely lot: Can’t think of a suitable Swifty quote so I’ll go with Shania (should make more sense in a couple of weeks!) Let’s go girls!

World Cup Squad Announcement standard

We are delighted to share the official squad announcement for the upcoming Touch World Cup with you. A massive heartfelt congrats to all those below, but also the countless others that have helped along the way to grow this area of the game. I know how hard it is to miss out on tournaments, but we have others coming up and I can’t wait to see us field both a 35s and a 40s at events soon and am excited by the demand for place that we will have. Best of luck to those competing and keep the faith and love all xoxo COYGIG!

No Drizzle in Brizzle! standard

Everything went somewhat surprisingly well as we enjoyed a lovely day out in Bristol. With the weather holding out fabulously we were able to arrive without delays, enjoy some lunch in the park, spend a couple of hours training, head out to North Bristol Rugby Club (which was very busy) for a couple of matches and get everyone back to the airport in time (even if the Nordies had to get a taxi – sorry ladies!). The matches were great contests and much valued experience and preparation. The SW Saxons weren’t as strong as normal which allowed us to work through some moves and patterns, finishing up with a satisfying 9-0 win. The Welsh were much stronger and gave us ...
